Traditional Clothing

This exhibit displays traditional clothing of men, women and children including buckskin dresses, shirts, leggings and gloves as well as moose hide moccasins, beautifully designed and decorated jackets and headdress.

A variety of decorations adorned on the clothing that predate contact are shells, dentalia, claws, feathers, porcupine quills, mink and antler buttons to name a few.

The hides were pierced with antler or bone awls and laced together with buck skin ties.

The head dresses varied from a bonnet of feathers worn traditionally by Chiefs to animal capes such as the coyote, cougar and bear head dresses with attached capes usually accompanied by a story, legend or hunting adventure.
